Writing-Literature-Vocabulary 2021-22
The Class includes 28 x 1hr classes between September and May, all the homework scheduling, grading, downloadable outlines and marking rubrics, and email help for students.

1. Writing Component
Power in Your Hands by Sharon Watson (each student must buy this text)

-We will cover 1/2 the text this year: Essay Planning, Opinion Essay, Persuasion Essentials Essay, Persuasion Next Level Essay, Logical Persuasion, Proof Reading and Common Mistakes Chapters, Letters/emails, How-To Essay, Writing a Devotional, Compare and Contrast Essay, and a Literary Analysis Essay
2. Literature Component
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde
The Book Thief by Zusak (replaced by Great Gatsby for higher grade readers)
A Modest Proposal by Jonathon Swift
A Christmas Carole by Charles Dickens (replaced by Twelfth Night by Shakespeare for higher grade readers)
Plus a selection of poetry for higher grade readers
3. Vocabulary Component
-parents can choose from Vocabulary Workshop, or Abeka Vocabulary (or another vocabulary curricula if they have a favorite)
-we will place students at an individually appropriate level
-Vocabulary workshop has the option of using the online resources only (so no extra cost), otherwise the cost of the workbook will be the responsibility of the family

Power in Your Hands Text: aprox $50
Required Reading: $75-$100 (or find online or used)
Classes: $10-13 per week for 28 weeks ($280-364)
Optional Vocabulary workbook: aprox: $30
