1.  Read the book!  Make a reading schedule so you stay on track and don't get behind.

SECOND BOOK:   War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells

We will meet on Monday Nov 16   1:30-3:00 pm

BEFORE THEN:

1.  Read the book!  Make a reading schedule so you stay on track and don't get behind.

2. It's ok to read some chapter summary online if you're having trouble understanding the language or what is going on.

3.  Use the bookmark I emailed you to make a few notes as you read!  Look for these things:
*science vs. religion
*what is prayer?
*Social Darwinism espouses the belief that the "fittest" will be the leaders / rulers and that people belong in certain classes based on their evolution.  How does that come into this book?

FIRST BOOK:   Pudd'nhead Wilson by Mark Twain

We will meet on Monday October 5  - 2:30-4 pm

BEFORE THEN:

Read the book!  It is a hard read - and I hope that some of the themes might make you very uncomfortable.   (what's a theme?  we'll learn about that in book club!)

1.  make a reading schedule so you stay on track and don't get behind.  Its hard enough to read but harder yet when you have to read 1/2 of it in a week!

2.  Its ok to read some chapter summary online if you're having trouble understanding the language or what is giong on.  I recommend Schmoop.

3.  Make some notes as you read!  Look for these things:
*places where people pretend to be someone they're not

*twins or "2 peas in a pod!"

*ask yourself...  Is this person they way they ar because of race/family  or because of how they were raised?
